Throughout time white diamonds have been seen as the pinnacle of elegance in the world of gems. Ancient mythologies had these precious stones praised as fallen stars and tears of the gods. Who can blame them? The beauty of these stones truly knows no bounds. The name though might be slightly confusing.
The name given to this remarkable diamond doesn’t quite describe what it is. The purest form of a white diamond is a colourless, clear stone. When there are impurities a yellow and sometimes even brown hue appears. Therefore, white diamonds aren’t white at all. They are graded upon colour (how clear the stone is) on a scale ranging from D-Z.
Diamonds that are truly white in colour do not fall on this scale. These gems are actually called opalescent diamonds.
